There are over 25 million potholes in South Africa!
GrooveTech is developing technologies to fix potholes in South Africa!
We are developing a technology that will enable municipalities, road agencies and contractors to access durable and affordable road maintenance materials such as polymer modified bitumen, asphalt and crack sealant made from recovered and recycled raw materials. Our pothole filler is modified with recycled polymers and is aimed at enabling road agencies, municipalities and contractors to fix potholes efficiently and effectively using our durable formulation. Our binder is cost effective and reduces the amount of virgin polymers required to produce a stable formulation for pothole applications.
For municipalities that produce their own asphalt for pothole applications, we enable them to incorporate recovered/ recycled polymers in their manufacturing process to produce a durable and affordable product to help them deal with pothole patching budget constraints. For contractors, our technology will enable them to get access to durable, good quality and affordable pothole fillers for improved competitiveness in the market. For road agencies, our technology will enable them to curb repetitive pothole patching and improve the condition of the roads under their care thus improving road safety.
We are in a process of conducting field studies with the City of Tshwane under the OPENIX Innovation Challenge which is aimed at piloting road maintenance materials within the City to find the most efficient solution to deal with potholes.
In 2023, we were part of the Royal Academy of Engineering Technology Development Programme (UK) to refine our value proposition and build key relationships with stakeholders within the roads industry internationally.
